A few things about Silicone:

During my research, I encountered a few questions about the safety of direct human contact with Silicone products. I read a publication at the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s National Library of Medicine about “Direct Human Contact with Siloxanes (Silicones) – Safety or Risk Part 1. Characteristics of Siloxanes (Silicones)“. Yes, I did that for you! In this publication, there is Table 2, which lists Siloxanes (Silicone) properties.

The good news is that they do not have any effect on the immune system, no carcinogenic effects, and no skin irritation. They are completely safe to use. They even use Silixane in medicinal products, medical devices, and cosmetics.

The even better news is that Silicone can be recycled multiple times, but it requires a specialized recycling company.

"OXO" silicone sponge holder

A very smart way to store your kitchen's sponge. It can get attached anywhere you want inside your kitchen's sink.

“This is perfect in every way. I like how it easily attaches to the side of sink and stays up. Never falls down. Easy to remove basket without taking off suction and a snap to reattach. Suction piece is easy to put up and take down. Nice big holes in bottom of basket to let kitchen debris fall through. Perfect size: small enough not to crowd sink and big enough to hold scrubber and short handled brush. Runs through dishwasher if it gets dirty. As I wrote, perfect in every way.”

€ 8.65

My opinion:

This has been my personal choice since it takes ZERO space! I have attached it to the right side of my sink and I have no issues when I do the dishes. Also, if you are brave enough, you can use a different sponge holder and keep the hold suction cup (Which is veeery strong and steady).

Caution: Use it on stainless steel sinks. On other surfaces, it will not hold.

Bonus: They will replace it or provide you a full refund if you didn’t stay satisfied.

A few Notable Mentions

I need to show that I did spend a lot of time researching silicone sponge holders, so here they are …

1
WeTest cheap silicon sponge holder

WeTest 2 Pack Premium Kitchen Sink Silicone Sponge Holder

At first, this silicone sponge holder was about to take the "Cheap option" place, since it includes two holders and it costs 9.91 EUR (just below 5 EUR each).

However, the final price is higher, and you might not even need a second sponge holder (who really doesn't need a second one??).

“Counter space looks nice and cleaner. Water was mysteriously getting all over the counters every time someone washed hands or dishes 🙄. But now the waterworks seem to be better contained with the soap bottles not being moved around all over the place and you just nicely reach over and get a squirt.”

Price:

€ 9.91 – Two sponge holders included!!

My opinion:

I got them for my country home since I wanted to have a sponge holder for both the kitchen and bathroom. Excellent option and very cheap. It is not something very fancy, but it gets the job done.

Also, it is very easy to clean, which is super important. Just put it under running hot water, scrub it with a sponge, and it is done!

Casabella Sink Sider Faucet Caddy Sponge Holder

This is a classic one with adjustable straps and two storage compartments (for your sponge and a brush)

It is very secure, you can hang it from your sink faucet and it will allow your sponge to dry quicker. It needs good cleaning every 1-1,5 months.

“I’ve been looking for something to let my sponges sit in to dry properly and put somewhere on my sink. In my experience, the suction cup models rarely stay in place due to moisture. This handy item solves this issue as it wraps around my sink head and snaps into place. It’s in the perfect spot below my sink and I haven’t had any issues with it coming off or stretching out. Recommended!”

€ 7.36

My opinion:

I used to have a similar sponge holder for my sink. It takes no space since you hang it from the sink faucet and you can easily wash your dishes, vegetables, etc…

The only negative thing about this is that if you forget to clean it every 1-1,5 months, it will start to get moldy.

One verified customer states that the Casabella sponge holder is not dishwasher safe, you will have to clean it on your own. I do not have a dishwasher, so I had to clean it with my own bare hands, like a real man …
